Area attractions

Porcupine Provincial Forest

About 40 km north of Norquay extends the massive Porcupine Provincial Forest. This southern boreal (mixed wood) forest spans 1,459,929 acres and contains a wildlife management unit, community pasture, two provincial historic park markers, a national historic site and four recreation sites. Hunting is permitted under provisions of The Game Act.

Wildlife abounds in this beautiful and undeveloped part of the province. McBride, Pepaw, Townsend, Woody and Whitefish are just a few of the lakes nestled in The Porcupine Hills, just 1 1/2 hours drive from Norquay. Northern pike, yellow perch, trout and walleye are the main varieties of sports fish caught in the area.

Snowmobile enthusiasts enjoy the excitement of riding beautifully groomed trails that wind for miles through the valleys and forests to the north.

Duck Mountain Provincial Park

Located 60 km southeast of Norquay, Duck Mountain Provincial Park is a 45-minute drive southeast of Norquay. This park boasts sandy beaches at Madge Lake for swimming as well as boating, fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The park also includes a challenging 18 hole golf course.

Crystal Lake

Twenty minutes southwest of Norquay is Crystal Lake. This resort community provides a nine hole golf course, sandy beaches for swimming, boating and fishing. Swimming lessons given in July and August are well attended by residents of Norquay.

Fort Pelly and Fort Livingstone

Visit our neighbouring community of Pelly and tour the Fort Pelly Historic Museum and the old Fort Pelly site beside the Assiniboine River.

Pelly was the site of the first Northwest Mounted Police outpost in Saskatchewan. Pelly is also the site of Fort Livingstone, the first seat of government for the Northwest Territories. Fort Pelly is located along the Assiniboine River while Fort Livingstone is situated along the Swan River.

Veregin Doukhobor Village

Directly south of Norquay, this heritage museum depicts the life-style of this early Doukhobor community. The half-hour drive is well worth the time.
